Korea Exchange to Open an After-Market for the Stock Market

한국거래소, 주식시장 애프터마쯛 개설 — English Edition

Released: 9 September 2026
Issuer: Korea Exchange (KRX)
Effective: 14 September 2026
Length: 8 pages

From 14 September 2026 the Korean stock market stays open until 20:00. KRX is abolishing the after-hours single-price session (16:00–18:00), where trading was possible only by auction at ten-minute intervals, and replacing it with a continuous trading session running from 16:00 to 20:00 — the After-Market. The Exchange frames the move as a response to competition for liquidity with the US exchanges, which are working towards 24×5 trading to capture Asian retail flow. 38 securities companies, representing 95.2% of market share, are expected to participate.

About this edition

The full text is translated, including both annexes and all nine frequently asked questions. The trading-session diagram on the first page — which sets the KRX and NextTrade sessions side by side, before and after — has been reproduced as a table rather than dropped.

A press release is not a rule. The operative provisions are those of the Business Regulations and Enforcement Rules of the KOSPI and KOSDAQ Markets, which the Exchange states will be available from 14 September 2026.
